Mudroom Plank Wall
Mudrooms are a hot item in houses these days. Even if its a smaller space you can make a mudroom that functions well. I love that we were able to create a mudroom space in the Flip House. Who doesn’t love a place to put things when coming through the door? I wanted to do something special since you would see the wall area from the kitchen. What did I end up doing (I guess the title gives it away huh)? A plank wall! I love the way that planks really jazz up a wall and can be easily done. It just gives it a little something extra and gives a big impact.
Here is the area before. There was an area of drywall that went up before we could stop them so just ignore that piece hanging on the wall.
And a shot from one of the bedrooms off the mudroom.
In progress in the mudroom. We put thick black tarp paper behind the wall. I really wanted more spacing between the planks but the workers already had this much done when I got there so I didn’t make them pull it down. I wanted a little of the black to show through but oh well that’s how it goes with building sometimes.
Now we have all the planks up!
And now for the finished product! I did a fun effect on the wood to give it a weathered look. After a good cleaning of the wood, I diluted down a water based stain that was a dark gray. I used approximately 3 parts water to 1 part paint. I then took a rag and wiped it on. I let it soak in a few minutes and then took a clean rag and wiped it off. It turned out pretty cool if I do say so myself. What do you think?
