Front Door and Window Reveal
I left you hanging in the last post about the front door design, windows and what exactly the front porch will look like! I can’t wait to show you how we moved the front door and what a big difference new windows make to the curb appeal of the house. The windows of the ranch were original to the house and were in awful shape. We knew we would be replacing the windows but wow what a difference new windows make to bring a house up to date. The roof also was replaced along with the front porch getting an update to the roof line. Wow! A lot of things are going on with the curb appeal portion of the house. Taking down those trees made a huge difference and so will all the landscaping (which will come at the end of course). The house will look fresh, bright and cheery when I’m done with it. Now on to the photos and details of what you will see on the outside.
First off, the roof on this house was in poor condition and we knew that when we bought it. We really didn’t know how bad though. The good news is that my husband owns a roofing company, Bone Dry Roofing Company, and we were able to get a good crew over to replace the roof. I can’t believe that it wasn’t raining in the house. We had to replace 12 roof deck plywood sheets and do several more repairs before even putting the new roof on. It was bad, really bad! Rotten wood everywhere!! But now the roof is on and all sparkly new and all the repairs have been made! Now on to replace the windows.
Here are our windows. They are 4 over 4 style windows which still have a traditional look but not as traditional as the 6 over 6. What do you thing? They are energy efficient and will be an awesome addition to the exterior appeal of the house.
This is a picture of the windows being put in. How great are they starting to look? They make the exterior just pop now! Woohoo!
Since we are moving the front door, we boarded up the original door spot, took out the windows in the middle section and started to take the brick out of where we will be putting the new front door. It’s kind of hard to visualize but I promise it will look good.
This is an up close view of the brick coming out.
And now here is the front door! What do you think? It will get stained and will really stand out on the porch. I’m so excited how it is coming together.
Here is another view of the door from the inside of the house. I love the style, don’t you?
One last bit of information in this post. The front porch is getting metal decking. In case you haven’t seen metal decking before, the decking goes down and concrete is then poured on top of it for the porch. This is the technique that is used on apartment complexes when you see decks suspended off the ground on different floors. So next up is bringing in the concrete guys to pour the porch and then we are ready for the porch roof to be put in.
What would you like to see in the next post? How about some interior shots? Thank you again for visiting.
