I’m FLIPPING a House
and I am taking you along on the journey!
I can’t tell you how excited I am to announce that I will be blogging about flipping a house. I have wanted to buy a house to redo since buying my first house with my husband 10 years ago. The first house we bought as a married couple needed to have a complete overhaul. We bought it after we had been married for 6 only months. I know crazy right? My husband owns a roofing company so we have contacts in the construction industry and just went for it. Neither of us had experience and we were young but that didn’t stop us. We lived in a condo and were not really looking for a house to buy but we had a friend that said we should go look at this house that had been on the market for almost 2 years. It was on a cul de sac and in a great neighborhood and great location. But, it needed a complete renovation and scared most people off! We bought the house and spent 6 months tearing out walls, carpet, wallpaper, the entire kitchen and all the bathrooms. We completely renovated the entire house and continued to work on more projects throughout the time we lived there. We also bought a fixer upper (flip) to sell right about the time we finished our house and moved in. (Yes I like to have 4,000 things going on at one time). The house was a great deal and we went in gutted it added a second floor, blew out the back on both sides and completely overhauled the exterior. We put a sign in the yard and sold it 2 days later. That was in 2004. Throughout the years we have renovated 3 lake houses. We sold 2 and have one that we own and love to use. I LOVE DOING THIS!!!! Fast forward to now. I bugged my husband for years to do a house flip. I am a risk taker but know my abilities and vision so it isn’t too scary. I can walk in the most run down house and see the potential. I think its kind of like looking at a piece of furniture that is falling apart and making it into something beautiful. But my husband wanted no part (other than the roofing) of it. He is too busy and didn’t want to be involved with the day to day. He told me to find a way to do it and he would be supportive! Well I did and found a way to buy a house and make it beautiful! I follow the local real estate market and have often cringed when I saw a good deal pass me by because it wasn’t the right time. NOW is the time. My partners (investor and contractor) and I looked at 8 total houses and made offers on 4. Finally we found the right one for the right price to make the money work with a renovation. It needs a complete gut job and an addition but it has great bones. I am in control of the ALL the designing. I am so excited to be able to really show you my design skills and show you what I can do. It’s going to be a fun ride. I would like to get more into the designing field so this is a chance to prove myself. Our project is already well underway and I have taken tons of pictures. I can’t wait to share them with you. Now here is big reveal….
It is a very typical 60s ranch but I have lots of great surprises in store!
